DMCMS - Milestones

Christmas Eve 2004

After deciding to update my personal website I had been looking into the possibility of using PHP and SQL to develop a basic content management system so that I could administer the site via a browser instead of using the traditional Text Editor and FTP client. The initial 'hello world' file was concieved, written and tested at around about 8pm.

March 2005

Site fully up and running including browser interface for adding and editing content. Development on code continued over the following year with additional features added and removed.

March 2006

Started work on rewriting code into something more portable. Original code was tailor made for my personal site and so was not very flexible. By this point I had decided to tidy up the code with a view of releasing it as an open source CMS project. I Registered the 'DeeEmm' Domain - DeeEmm being the phonetic spelling of the initials of my nickname, and also a psuedonym under which I used to code.

June 2006

Initial version of CMS code uploaded to the new DeeEmm website for testing purposes. Site content created using the CMS.

December 2006

First version of DMCMS available to the public for download - released as DeeEmm.0.5.61.beta.

January 2007

Updated my personal website to use the new DMCMS code. Officially released DMCMS as open source under the GPL. DMCMS Name adopted.

February 2007

Registered DMCMS on Sourceforge.Net as an open source project, transferred download hosting to SF.Net, added files to CVS repository. Demo version made available on DeeEmm site for visitors to try out. Version 0.6.0.beta available as first download from SF.Net. phpBB forum integration modification for phpBB also uploaded to SF.Net.

May 2007

DMCMS Breaks into top 500 rankings on Sourceforge with over 170 downloads since SF.Net hosting started.

July 2008

Release candidate 1 released as DMCMS LT - a 'Lite' version based on the 0.7.X development branch.

July 2009

The code was split into two versions - 'Lite' and 'Pro'. The pro version included a user management system with fully configurable permissioning, article commenting, permission subscriptions and user configurable language management. The Lite version was an improved version of the 0.7.x branch with some features borrowed from the pro version. Unfortunately all development work for the Pro version was lost in a theft.

Today

After a long break, work has recommenced on updating the 0.7.x releases to be released as Version 1. Snapshots of the current development path are being offered for download via the DeeEmm forums.

DmWebTech: Why is it every time Xmarks has an update available, it fails to load? It does not breed confidence in thier product, to say the least.
